Stress (Monumental) , 2010
Concrete and Cast bronze
860 x 200 x 200 cms
The idea of this work comes from a personal experience of the artist to grind the teeth like an effect of stress, but we can also consider this sculpture as a monument to the collective experience of stress in contemporary urban life. The first version of this piece (2002-2004) used the real set of teeth molds of different people. In this version the artist uses the concrete weight of 17 tons of and the monumental scale to reinforce the symbolism of the weight and the impact of the work in the public space. The bronze teeth support the weight of each block of concrete using of symbolic way the gravity, the tension and the resistance of the materials.
Absolutely disgusting, I love it.
